JWTS Muscat, Oman

From December 12th – 14th, 2024, JWTS was guest in Muscat, Oman. It was the first JWTS tournament in Oman. At the same time, it was also the first tournament where players receive UTR rating in addition to JWTS world ranking points.

JWTS tournament partner was Pro Tennis Oman with Anrei Razvan as CEO.

48 players from 9 countries, Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, India, Hungary, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Kazakhstan registered for the JWTS Oman Junior Open. The age groups were U10-12-14.

All players had many matches in singles, doubles and mixed over the 3 match days.

The semi-final of the boys U10 was very exciting, with 3 countries fighting for the tournament victory. Hussain Alshourfa, number 1 in the boys U10 from Saudi Arabia won against Reyaan Tyagi from India, who lives in Oman. In the second semi-final, Jithin Napa from Kuwait won against Shiva Bajaj, the current number 1 in the JWTS world rankings. Jithin won the tournament in an exciting final.

In the semi-final of the boys U12, there was an all-Indian duel with Ansh Vyas against Kavinraj Arunraj, which Ansh Vyas won in the match tie-break. In the second semi-final, Richard Lesego Peters from Nigeria played against Nileish Mithun Brahman from Sri Lanka. Richard won the semi-final and also the final against Ansh.

In the semi-final of the boys U14, there was an exciting duel with Ahmed Ehab Ibrahim from Hungary against Advay Kapoor from India. Both live in Oman and know each other very well. In the end, Ahmed won in the match tie-break. In the second semi-final, Richard Lesego Peters played again, this time against Breijesh Sharun Brahman, the brother from the U12 semi-final. Richard also won this match and was also in the final in the boys’ U14. There, Ahmed won clearly in 2 sets, and thus took home the first title.

Unfortunately, at the beginning of the tournament, there were a few cancellations from girls U10 and U12. As a result, there were only 3 players per draw in the end. In the girls’ U10, Salima Sadykova from Kazakhstan won. Second place went to Shanelle Dsouza from India, who lives in Dubai.

In the girls’ U12, Serena Varghese was the first player from Oman to win a JWTS tournament. Second place went to Jigisha Deori from India.

In the mixed doubles, there was another premiere in Oman. For the first time in tennis, a mixed doubles match was played in Oman. The winners were Serena Varghese and Reyaan Tyagi, who lost in final against Shanelle Dsouza and Shahryar Alimadadi.

The doubles were played in the boys’ U10/12 and U14 age groups.

In the U10/12, Reyaan Tyagi and Nileish Mithun Brahman won the final against the twins Shiva and Rudra Bajaj.

In the U14, Ahmed Ehab Ibrahim and Nileish Mithun Brahman won the final against Advay Kapoor and Breijesh Sharun Brahman.

“It was a successful premiere of JWTS in Oman. We hope for more tournaments in 2025,” said CEO Anrei Razan of Pro Tennis Oman after the awards ceremony. The players also had nothing but praise for JWTS and the organization. What everyone liked best was that they had a lot of matches in 3 days.
